Information

Automatic feeding means weekends away and no more rushing home to feed the chickens:

One of the frustrating problems chicken owners face is that hens require daily feeding to keep them laying well. This means that to 'get away' for a few days, hen owners often have to rely on friends and neighbours to feed their poultry.
Grandpa's Feeders overcomes this problem, by making available either 20lb of feed (with the standard feeder) which will feed approximately 10 chickens for 6 days, or 40lb of feed (with the large feeder) which will feed 20 chickens for 6 days, or alternatively 10 chickens for 12 days

Stop rodents and wild birds such as sparrows and starlings stealing your chickens food:

The most common and frustrating problem for poultry owners is that other birds, noticeably sparrows, compete for, and in many cases steal the lion's share of your hens' food.
More stealthily and therefore not so noticeably, rats and mice live around domestic poultry knowing there is always a daily free feed coming.
As well as the absolute frustration that this causes poultry owners, these rodents and wild birds pose a serious health risk to both hens and owners.
Grandpa's Poultry Feeders prevent these unwanted critters getting a look in - they are both sparrow and rodent proof, eliminating this major problem once and for all.

How they work:

Grandpa's Poultry feeders have a hinged lid over the feed trough. This lid is lifted by the weight of a hen stepping onto an attached platform. This allows it to feed from the trough. Once the hen steps off the platform, the lid closes to prevent sparrows, rats, etc. from getting access to the food.
Initially, your poultry needs to become used to the feeder and this is very simple, requiring only the positioning of two bolts (provided).
For the first seven days the feed trough lid is left fully open and the platform locked down while hens feed, so they become used to standing on the platform and putting their heads into the trough to feed.
After seven days the two bolts are repositioned so the hinged lid will close only half way. This enables the hens to get used to the lid and platform moving.
Finally, seven days after this, the two bolts are removed altogether and your feeder is in its permanent mode. By now the hens will be fully used to the feeder and will be using it at will.

Save time and money:

Many of our customers tell us that their Grandpa's Feeder paid for itself in its first year simply by cutting down their poultry food bill.
Because only your poultry can eat the food provided and all the wild birds in the neighbourhood can't, the amount you spend on poultry food will be considerably less.
Also the need to feed your hens daily is avoided as they have access to days of food at a time.

Strongly constructed from permanent materials - built to last:

Grandpa's Feeders are constructed from high quality galvanized steel with an aluminium platform. They are very sturdy and trouble free and are built to last, as the thousands we have built over the last fourteen years have proved.

Weather proof:

The combination of being constructed of 100% metal and a design that does not allow any rain into the feed means Grandpa's Feeders can be left either indoors or outdoors as you please.

Fantastic presents:

Over the years we have had a lot of feedback from people who have either received or given Grandpa's Feeders as presents and the result is always the same - FANTASTIC!
It's a present that will give lasting pleasure and prove to be a real winner, plus be a conversation point in the back yard or around the dinner table.
